What feeds are available?
Romford Evan now has two RSS 2.0 feeds that you can subscribe to using a suitable RSS reader (including iTunes). The urls of the feeds are:
- Full list of Sermon podcasts
- http://www.romford-evan.co.uk/audio_rss.xml
- What's on this week listings
- http://www.romford-evan.co.uk/events/thisweek_rss.xml
- Forthcoming events
- http://www.romford-evan.co.uk/events/forthcomingevents_rss.xml
You may need to cut and paste the links into your RSS reader if your web browser does not understand RSS.
What is RSS?
RSS is a technology that has been around on the internet for a number of years, but has recently gained in popularity. It allows you to monitor websites for new content (www.romford-evan.co.uk now included) without actually visiting the websites.
To use RSS, you need an RSS reader (or "aggregator" - because it aggregates the contents of many sites onto one page), which is a piece of software that resides on your computer. There are also RSS websites such as www.bloglines.com which will do the same thing.
The RSS reader will check all sites you have subscribed to on a regular basis to see if there are any new pages. If there are, these pages will be flagged up to you, and you can usually navigate to the new page by clicking a link in the RSS reader.
Where can I download an RSS reader from?
Whilst there are a small number of popular web browsers used today, there are a large number of RSS readers. Indeed, Firefox and Safari are both able to act as RSS aggregators. We do not recommend any particular reader, but typing "rss reader" into a search engine is a good starting point.
What does the Romford Evan RSS feed contain?
At the moment we just publish a list of the available sermons to download. In the future we plan to have other feeds, including What's on this week and Forthcoming events
What is Podcasting?
Podcasting is a way to 'subscribe' to radio programmes or other downloadable music or spoken word and have them delivered to your personal computer. These Podcasts are free. As a subscriber to a Romford Evan podcast you can automatically receive the latest sermon when it is added to the site. This file can then be easily transferred to an mp3 player. To do this you will need an internet connection and a piece of podcast software which is usually available free of charge (probably iTunes). This software can check this site for new episodes and automatically download them to your player.
If you have iTunes installed, you can subscribe to our Podcast here.
How to download sermons
All our sermons are available as MP3 files. Anyone may download sermons from the past four weeks listed on the sermon download page and, once you have downloaded an MP3 file, you no longer need to be connected to the internet to hear it.
To download, right-click (or Ctrl-click on a Mac) on the relevant link and choose "Save target as...", and when the dialogue box pops up, choose where on your computer to save the MP3 file.
