Solos Plus Visit the Beeb

A group of 17 people from Evan visited the BBC Television Centre in London for a tour of the Centre.

We met at Gidea Park Station in the mid – afternoon and travelled together on the train and tube to White City underground station.

At the TV Centre we were given a guided tour of some of the studios, including the No.1 studio that had been used the evening before for “Comic Relief”. We also visited a dressing room, newsroom and some were given the opportunity to present a weather forecast against the plain green screen that is used. They had to master the difficult task of pointing out the features that were only shown on the screen in front of them.

We were shown how the layout of the buildings, which dated back to the 1960’s, had been designed in the shape of a large question mark.

A few people were also given the opportunity to read the news and play a few rounds of “The Weakest Link” which was a lot of fun.

Finally we were guided to the BBC souvenirs shop, which was nice!

It had been an interesting and enjoyable afternoon out.

Solos Plus consists mainly of single adults within the church who enjoy a wide range of social activities including bowling, trips, visits, meals out and other events.
