Here's one I made earlier
For people of my age and a bit younger, The Blue Peter Advent crown was an important
part of the build-up to Christmas. Oh, that sense of anticipation as another candle
was lit. Not long now! Soon the great day will be upon us. Despite the offer of
a 'fact sheet' telling how to make it, I never did master that intricate design
involving four wire coat-hangers, tinsel, baubles and of course four candles. Like
most of my contemporaries, I had to make do with the shop-bought Advent Calendar.
No chocolates behind the doors in those days – just 'seasonal' pictures: snowman,
tree, Santa, holly, and of course the big finale on the 24th – The Nativity scene.
Here at Romford Evan, we are counting down the days to Christmas. We're decorating
the church, squeezing the tree through the door, practising carols, ordering mince
pies, inviting the neighbours round for some real seasonal cheer. We'll be telling
the "old old story". We reckon the message of the angels and the baby in the manger
is remarkably relevant and up-to-date for people under pressure at the end of 2008.
And yes, we have the Advent Crown – someone gets to light a candle each Sunday leading
up to the 25th!
It would be great to share Christmas with you this year. Why not plan to be with
us at one of the events mentioned here. Christmas really is something to celebrate.
Come and join in!
